Andre Gomes’ illness brings an end to two months of continuity
A bug has left Andre Gomes out of Barcelona’s squad for Saturday’s game against Celta Vigo. The Portuguese midfielder therefore sees his continuity in the squad come to an end.
The 23-year-old has been a regular during his first season at the club. He has never been doubted by Luis Enrique and has even been chosen ahead of Ivan Rakitic on a number of occasions.
Gomes has not been left out of a squad since Jan. 11, when the coach left him out of the side for the Copa del Rey game against Athletic Club.
On that occasion, it was down to rotations. However, and since then, his presence in the squad has been total. That’s 13 consecutive games either starting or coming on from the bench for Gomes, who this time will not be involved.
