Barcelona B’s 12-0 win over Eldense leads to losing side calling police
Youngsters made history as it was the biggest victory in the Spanish third tier since May 1992
Suspicions have arisen since Barcelona B’s incredible 12-0 thumping over Eldense as the losing club have since banned all sporting activity and called for a police enquiry into their own players.
The astonishing scoreline – which saw Eldense relegated – was initially seen as a freak result.
Instead, it is being seen as a more serious matter.
According to Marca, the club are set to terminate a deal with an Italian investor group as well as suspending all sporting activity.
The club are also asking the police and La Liga to investigate the case following fears of match fixing.
President of Eldense suspects the Italian investor group may have something to do with the shock result.
Speaking to Radioestadio, the President said: “After today’s urgent meeting between the Club Deportivo Eldense’s board of directors… the contract with the Italian investor group has been rescinded and the first team’s sporting activities have been provisionally suspended.”
If any player is found out for being involved in match fixing, they are unlikely to play for the club again.
The surprise defeat is the biggest loss in the third tier since May 1992, when Extremadura beat Portuense 12-0.
Barcelona B were without a number of high-profile stars including Marc Cucurella, Jordi Mboula and Carles Alena.
