Carrick: it was a terrific final
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, including a late winner, as Manchester United beat Southampton 3-2 in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has told Sky Sports he hopes this will be a springboard for more success this season.
“We weren’t at our best. They had chances, we had chances, and it was a terrific final. Sometimes finals can be difficult as teams cancel each other out, but both teams went for it and we are delighted to come away for the win.
“Hopefully this will kick us on for the rest of the season.
“Zlatan is incredible. People keep asking questions of him and to play as many games as he has to start with is some achievement, and then he’s scored big goals with it. He won us the cup.
“It’s hard to explain how big it is but as a group the FA Cup was big last year and we carried it into the Community Shield and again today. Now we can look forward again.”
