David Moyes hails injured star for his life-saving heroics in Barbados
Crocked ace came to the aid of three elderly holidaymakers after a near-fatal boat crash but tried to play down his actions
David Moyes has hailed Duncan Watmore for his life-saving heroics in Barbados last month.
SunSport revealed on Thursday how the injured Sunderland forward helped rescue three elderly holidaymakers from the Caribbean Sea after a near-fatal boat crash.
And boss Moyes said: “I only found out about it when the story came out.
“He got a bit of stick but in truth he was completely humble about it.
“He didn’t tell anybody and when he told me about it, the story was horrific.
“He had to go in and save a couple of people in the water.”
Watmore, 23, is out for the season after he suffered cruciate knee ligament damage in December.
And Moyes added: “We’ve missed Duncan since he’s been injured.
“He’s one of the young English players who we’ve given a game to and he’s a really good guy to work with.”
