Hamsik: 2016 my best year
Napoli captain Marek Hamsik believes 2016 ‘his best year yet’ and praised the influence of Coach Maurizio Sarri.
The 29-year-old won the Slovakian Footballer of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year.
“2016 was probably my best year ever, I’m satisfied with this,” Hamsik admitted in his acceptance speech.
“With the arrival of Sarri, my performances in Naples grew and stabilized.
“Even with the national team things went well and we played a good tournament in France.
I’m five goals behind Maradona, for me it would be fantastic to be able to match his score. It would be special because besides being the best of all time, he has also did it at a great club like Napoli .”
“Honestly I have not prepared anything, no party or invitation for Diego (laughs).
“When it happens I will see what to do. The fact that Maradona came to see us was a nice gesture, he encouraged us a lot.
“Becoming the best Slovak footballer once again is a source of great pride.”
