Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to miss Leicester clash with foot injury
Liverpool have been handed a significant blow ahead of their clash with Leicester after Jordan Henderson was ruled out with injury.
Henderson, Liverpool’s influential captain, has not travelled to the East Midlands for Monday night’s game because of a badly bruised foot.
He sustained the issue in training but Liverpool were hoping it would settle down enough over the weekend for him to be included in the squad for a game that is crucial to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
There is no suggestion that Henderson has suffered any bone damage but the problem is sufficiently severe to cast a doubt on whether he will be available to line up against Arsenal on Saturday.
It is a headache that Jurgen Klopp could have done without as Henderson has been one of the outstanding players in Liverpool’s season and his presence in midfield is crucial.
Klopp, who is already without Dejan Lovren and has concerns over how Daniel Sturridge has recovered from a virus, is now likely to select a midfield three of Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum.
He could, though, play Ragnar Klavan in central defence and that would allow Lucas Leiva to be the option of moving into Henderson’s anchor role.
The setback could not have come at a worse moment for the 26-year-old, though, as he had recovered from the heel issue that had plagued him during the festive period and had come back to peak form.
He was excellent in the 2-0 win over Tottenham when Liverpool last played 16 days ago and his form has left Klopp delighted.
He referred to the England international as being ‘an animal’ for the way he performed against Spurs.
