Neither Ramos nor Pique will play this weekend
Having dominated the headlines while away with Spain, both Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique will not return to club duty for the weekend fixtures.
Real Madrid host Alaves before Barcelona face an away game against Granada, both on Sunday, and the title rivals have to do so without their key defenders.
The combination of a knock and the precarious position of being on four yellow cards means that Pique isn’t due to be risked at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes ahead of the Blaugrana’s crunch game versus Sevilla in midweek.
It means that Barcelona will take on a Granada side in decent form at home without Lionel Messi, Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal as well as their key centre-back.
Likewise, Ramos has been given the weekend off by coach Zinedine Zidane in lieu of the busy fixture schedule ahead.
Fortunately for the Blancos boss, Pepe and Raphael Varane are back in contention to start at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, competing with Nacho Fernandez for the two spots available.
