No glory without Umtiti
Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat against Deportivo on Sunday was their third of the LaLiga season and the ninth game without Samuel Umtiti; the other six finished as draws.
The French defender has become the talisman because when the 23-year-old starts, the Blaugrana win.
In the 16 matches that coach Luis Enrique has put the Frenchman on from the first minute, Barcelona have always managed to get the three points.
And if the victory is assured with Umtiti, without him the defeat is almost inevitable.
More specifically, in the eleven games that he hasn’t played, the Catalans have only managed two wins: against Sporting Gijon in the Estadio Molinon and curiously against Deportivo in the Camp Nou.
The others had been six draws and three defeats.
Coincidence or not, the truth is that Umtiti has been confirmed as the most reliable partner for Gerard Pique, and as the best signing this season.
His performance, except in Paris, has always been unquestionable.
