Rakitic: Hopefully Barcelona can make a miracle happen vs. PSG
Shortly after demolishing Celta Vigo, Ivan Rakitic made clear the Barcelona players are not ruling out a potential miraculous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16.
The Catalans put up a massive 5-0 triumph on Saturday night, a scoreline that would guarantee them a quarter-final spot in the top European competition.
“We’re thankful for our fans, all I can assure is that we will give our best effort [versus PSG]” Rakitic said. “We will keep attacking until the very last minute and hopefully we can make a miracle happen.”
Regarding the lopsided victory against a squad that has troubled them in previous meetings, the Croatian highlighted the Blaugrana’s superb intensity and mobility.
“We maintained a high intensity throughout the match against a team [Celta] that uses individual pressing all over the pitch.
“The most important thing to succeed against a team like this is to keep moving.
“We need to keep this up.”
When inquired about coach Luis Enrique’s decision to step down at season’s end, Rakitic declared it has not affected the squad too much.
“We trust him and our relationship with him hasn’t changed too much.
“While it is good there’s no uncertainty anymore regarding his future, we’ve always been committed to him and his staff.”
