Suarez: Barcelona still don’t control their LaLiga destiny

Despite not scoring in Barcelona’s tight 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, Luis Suarez drew positive conclusions from the match, but acknowledged Real Madrid are still in the driver’s seat in LaLiga.

The Blaugrana are two points clear of their arch-rivals, although Los Blancos have played two fewer matches to date.

“This victory was crucial for us to get back on track,” Suarez said.

“Winning at the [Estadio Vicente] Calderon definitely boosts our confidence.”

The Uruguayan remarked that wins are the best possible cure for team disappointments such as the recent blowout loss against Paris Saint-Germain.

“Losing in such fashion hurts and a reaction was needed,” he continued.

“We remain in the title hunt, but we still don’t control our destiny, we depend on Madrid’s results to win the trophy.”

Luis Enrique’s match plan and the squad effort overall was praised but Suarez said he did not know whether Jordi Alba was injured or not.

“You should ask our doctors, I have no idea,” he noted.

Lastly, he didn’t rule out a potential comeback in the Champions League.

“It will be extremely difficult to advance, but not impossible,” he concluded.
