Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings ‘jumped into my elbow’
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has claimed that Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings ‘jumped into’ his elbow in the closing stages of the first-half during a fiery encounter at Old Trafford
The Manchester United star led with his elbow as he clattered into his opponent while they challenged for an aerial ball on the stroke of half-time.
The 35-year-old avoided a booking, and insisted after the match that he was not to blame for the incident.
Speaking to MUTV, Ibrahimovic said: ‘With the elbow situation, I jumped, I protect myself, I jump very high, he jumps into me, I think he jumps backwards, and I jump straight up and unfortunately he jumps into my elbow.
‘Hopefully he’s not injured or something. Situation happens, I go for the ball and unluckily he jumped into my elbow.
‘Nothing on purpose, nothing to do about it now. Hopefully he’s not injured.’
The early kick-off on Saturday ended in a 1-1 draw, with the incident between Ibrahimovic and Mings clouding a pulsating encounter.
Marcos Rojo had given the home side an early lead before Joshua King fired home from the penalty spot.
Ibrahimovic missed a second-half spot-kick himself as Jose Mourinho’s side wasted the chance to move into the top four.
